Rose was fifteen when she found out she was pregnant. Her and her 19 year old boyfriend J.R. had been seeing one another for about a year. Children hadn't even been a topic of discussion but from the moment she found out she was pregnant there wasn't a doubt in her mind that she wanted to keep the baby.
She was terrified to tell her mother and hid it as long as possible. She would purchase feminine products every month but give them away to friends and she wore baggier clothes to hide the weight gain. When she broke the news to her mother she was kicked out and went to live with her older sister.
Because she was so young her family was trying to pressure her into giving the baby up for adoption and they wouldn't allow her to see J.R. Despite this he never gave up, he wrote her letters every day they were apart. Even though they were young they knew that they loved one another, and most importantly they knew that they wanted to raise their child together.
Their daughter was born in May. Not only was J.R. forbidden to be present, his name was not printed on the birth certificate. Instead, the new baby girl was given her mother's last name. After three very long months, J.R. was able to see his daughter for the first time and he and Rose were married.
Things weren't easy for the young couple but Rose still managed to graduate high school and get her diploma. They moved around a lot staying with family off and on until they were able to get on their feet. The never had much money but they made sure that their daughter knew she was loved. They fought from time to time but no matter how angry they got at one another they didn't give up. They have been married almost thirty years now and their love has only grown stronger.
